Cartersaidwhat.com: The Lexington, London gig review 23/02/2010

.................

The world that we live in is built on opinions. Without them, this place we call home would be pretty boring. And I'm no different to anyone else. I have lots of opinions on lots of different things. For example, in my opinion the toy in a Kinder Surprise used to be far superior to what it is now. When I was a boy you would get a catapult, a pull-back race car or a bouncy ball as your treat. Now, I bought one the other day for nostalgic value and I got a bird sitting on a perch - I rest my case. I also have an opinion on the current state of live music. And that opinion is that there is a serious lack of diversity. It's frustrating. You don't get rock & roll bands like you used to. You get bands that have been put in a blender with a touch of pop and a smidgin of electro. And the result is a mismatch of genres which produces music that sounds like anything you would hear on any radio station anytime of day. However, opinions can change. And Twisted Wheel are here to prove just that point.

Heart of Punk Soul of a Rasta gig review of Birmingham Academy 11/02/2010

Passed THE BIG PINK advertisements stuck on lampposts (obviously the HYPE isn't quite over yet); passed the bleating line of woolly punters queuing for THE NME SHOCKWAVES TOUR gig (in Academy 1). Passed the touts, the tossers and the tearaways and into the gathering of the wise and virtuous outside Academy 3. God it was bitter in Brum; the sort of night a man could easily loose his bearings, no matter though we had "on street" entertainment as provided by the numpties in the other queue. OK so the majority of the sheep were blameless unknowing little lambs bedecked in their predictable indie uniforms, but amongst the innocent woolly ones there were those who could only be described as MUTTON, "ah there's no fool like an old fool Declan":

Sohostrut: Nottingham Bodega gig review 13/02/2010

The Bodega is packed to the brim. The soul stylists are out in force tonight. A sea of Faces, resplendent in Fred Perry’s and trusted parkas, adorn its inner portals. There is expectancy in the air. A mood that is to be fulfilled in abundance.

Jonny Brown takes to the stage, sporting a very sharp check shirt, and Twisted Wheel launch into their set. They’re on fire. Blasting out their repertoire of what are fast becoming indie-mod anthems. They’re all there, the tunes from their first album - “One Night On The Street”. “You Stole The Sun”, “We Are Us” and the rest, along with some new songs that sound equally as impressive.

Twisted Wheel's Leeds Brudenell gig review ~ Floatation Suite (by Joe)

......................................

I've got to admit it; I had been waiting for this one. I had been constantly blasting out anthems such as 'Smash It Up', 'Big Issue', 'Racket' and of course 'You Stole The Sun' for weeks now. We loaded up the car with enough beers to fill the Pacific, popped their self titled album in the stereo and proceeded to shout Jonny Brown's lyrics very loudly.

Word of warning to Manchester: take better care of Twisted Wheel’s lead man Jonny Brown or he’ll decamp to Japan. “In the summer we did Fuji Rock and it was mint,” enthuses Jonny in a plump Oldham accent.
