'Q' Magazine 2009 Awards - vote for Twisted Wheel

Since they began in 1990, the Q Awards have become one of Britain's biggest and best music awards, helped in no small part by the often boisterous behavior of the celebrities who attend the event. This year's awards take place on Monday 26th October. U2, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, Coldplay, Radiohead, The Who, Arctic Monkeys and more have all attended the annual Q Awards. A megastar line up is guaranteed, as is plenty of controversy.

So here's your chance to vote for Twisted Wheel. Use the following link to register first before you can vote

http://awards.qthemusic.com/

The Awards are voted for by the readers and listeners of Q magazine, Qthemusic.com, Q Radio and by the staff at Q. The final decision is the reserved right of the Q staff.

Two tickets to the music awards of the year are up for grabs. Everyone who votes online will be entered into a prize draw, with one winner chosen at random. Entrants must be aged 18 years or over. The judges' decision is final and the closing date for all entries is 9 October 2009.

Twisted Wheel gig review Roundhouse, Camden (iTunes Festival supporting Kasabian) by Jane

Its been a busy few days in the Twisted Wheel camp - no sleep for 48 hours - due to promotional filming in Germany for Mini (BMW) and many many interviews......

Photobucket The doors opened at 6pm, however, no entry to the Main Space until 7pm. So the time was spent chatting and meeting up with old & new friends (shout outs at the end of this post..x) The Roundhouse is a fantastic venue, and it is literally, round, making the sound fantastic.

Due to filming, and the radio show, Twisted Wheel took to the stage, sharpe at 8pm as billed, storming into 'Lucy The Castle' which got the crowd going. Twisted Wheel set list: 'Lucy The Castle' 'Bad Candy' 'Shes A Weapon' 'One Night On The Street' 'Strife' 'Turn Around' 'You Stole The Sun' 'Oh What Have You Done' 'We Are Us' Photobucket Full credit must be given to the lads, as absolutely no one could guess that they were running on empty, with their 48 hours with no sleep. Twisted Wheel are unstoppable, with their energy and drive. Even a technical fault with the guitar sound couldnt dampen their enthusiasum, as we got to see a slightly amended version of 'Strife' with Jonny clapping along to us singing the words, and Adam giving us a brilliant drum solo. With the fault fixed, it was time for the totally brilliant 'Turn Around' which is fast becoming the high light of the set, with the fantastic guitar solo stealing the show and the Kasabian fans really showed their appreciation by giving it a huge reception. Photobucket All too soon, we were hearing the closing chords of 'We Are Us' (extended version) signalling the end to another fantastic Twisted Wheel gig. Once again, the lads showed us how its done and wowed the audience, well and truely.

ok... as promised, the 'shout outs'.. firstly to Glenn (and Ant) from Sussex who I ommited to mention in the Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms post way back on the Headline Tour in May.. Steph (and Daniel) who I had met previously at the London Kings College gig (again on the headline tour) and who I will be keeping company with over at the Milan Festival in August... Rachel and Helen from Bristol.. Adam (Babyshamble) who was also suffering from lack of sleep... Mark, Jenny, Michelle, Danny, Jay, Paul... Luv you all..xx

Total Guitar (August 2009) Twisted Wheel feature

TWISTED WHEEL A three-man Mod revival smashes out of Manchester Who are they and what do they sound like? The self-titled debut from this Manchester three-piece is punchier than Mike Tyson throwing a tantrum, all sharp riffs and spiky lyrics from frontman/guitarist Jonny Brown. 'I love that 60s sound' says Jonny who was inspired to buy his first guitar by Oasis. It was a humble £40 acoustic with nylon strings' Oasis fan, eh? He must've been thrilled to land a support slot with the Gallagher bros! 'When we first got the gig offer for Oasis we were over the moon' recalls Jonny, 'but we didnt realise that their crowd is really hard to entertain. At an Oasis gig a lot of people just want to see Oasis' Still, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And add vodka. 'We've not been booed off yet so I think we're doing all right. It can be hard but at the same time it builds your confidence walking out in front of 40,000 people who don't know you. You've got to go for it'. Now that the lads are well on their way to the big-time, Jonny must have some fancy kit.... 'I use an Epiphone Sheraton, which I paid £150 for', Jonny tells TG. 'Ive got an American 1991 Stratocaster, which is brilliant, (but) it doesnt seem to have enough beef for what we do. I think unless you're Jimi Hendrix it's hard to front a three-piece with one Strat'. Aren't the guitar companies lining up to give them free gear? 'Not as many as I'd like!' Jonny admits ruefully. He blames the constricted purse strings in the music business. 'Everyone is a bit tight these days, what with the recession. Our tour manager spoke to Gibson and they said they'd lend me a 335 for the tour, but when we got there they'd loaned it out to someone else. I was heartbroken. They gave me a John Lee Hooker Boogie Man Epiphone, but I hit the guitar too hard for it' Despite being cheated of the guitar of his dreams, how does Jonny conjure up that wicked old-school Mod sound? I use a Ibanez Tube Screamer, a Boss Digital Delay and a Space Echo, which Im starting to use but Ive not mastered it yet', explains Jonny who plugs everything into an Orange AD30 amplifier. 'The first record is pretty raw', Jonny continues, 'I started off with just two guitar sounds, a clean sound and a distortion sound. I wanted that because it's straight from the basics and it leaves space to experiment for the next record'. Is the Wheel turning towards album number two yet? What should we expect? It is indeed, and something a little more trippy is on the cards, by the sounds of it. 'Ive been listening to Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd. I want a bit more psychedelic vibe', says Jonny. 'I love thise 60s pop tunes that have a big psychedelic jam in the middle, like the Byrds'

Rick Lee's Top Ten songs (Manchester Confidential.Com)

The Twisted Wheel bassist tells Manchester Confidential.com what music he goes mad to

What types of music do you like? I like pretty much all styles other than R'n'B, although it's predominantly guitar music. When I was growing up it was Oasis that got me into music so I started from there and worked my way backwards. Sometimes it's great to go mad to some Sex Pistols/Stooges and other times I sit back and admire the song smithery of Billy Bragg and The La's. For me personally, the Sixties and Seventies are where it's at mostly. What's the song that means the most to you and why? I like songs that sound like they've been put together in five minutes, masterpieces that have still got that raw energetic feeling. So it's 'A New England' by Billy Bragg. The words are amazing, and the guitar fits perfectly underneath, sort of like he's got two voices complimenting each other. He's not the most naturally gifted singer either but that to me is why it's so good, because you can tell he really means it.

What's your top ten favourite tunes? 1.'A New England' by Billy Bragg 2.'Slide Away' by Oasis 3.'How Does it Feel to Feel?' by The Creation 4.'I Can't Sleep' by The La's 5.'Problems' by Sex Pistols 6.'Dry The Rain' by The Beta Band 7.'Boredom' by Buzzcocks 8.'Quicksand' by David Bowie 9.'Penetration' by Iggy and The Stooges 10.'Long Shadow' by Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros http://www.manchesterconfidential.com/index.asp?Sessionx=IpqiNw7pNwXjIDy6IHqjNwB6IA

Twisted Wheel at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry 07/07/09, supporting Oasis exclusive gig review & pictures

Twisted Wheel were back in business, in Coventry, after enjoying their short break since playing at Glastonbury. Their set up was slightly altered tonight, as being a support band, their equipment only taking up half the stage, this time, the right hand side of the stage, so Jonny took the lead ,swopping to Rick's usual side (as seen in the above photo) The good people of Coventry gave the lads a warm welcome as they stormed into their first number of the night 'Lucy The Castle'. Photobucket

Twisted Wheel set list: 'Lucy The Castle' 'Bad Candy' 'Shes A Weapon' 'Strife' 'Turn Around' 'Let Them Have It All' 'You Stole The Sun' 'Oh What Have You Done' 'We Are Us' Photobucket Once again 'Turn Around' got a brilliant reception, with 'You Stole The Sun' getting the mosh pit going. They have surely won over many Oasis fans whilst supporting them on this arena tour, as everyone can see Twisted Wheel have the vibrant energy that outshines any up & coming band around, with the support from the good people of Oasis and Paul Weller they will go far
